Statistical classification of waste

Full title: Statistical classification of waste
Abbreviation: SCO
Originating authority: EUROSTAT
Legal basis: Regulation 2150/2002/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 25 November 2002, and the revision of the same Regulation 849/2010/EC of 27 September 2010, require reporting to the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) on statistical data on waste and the use of common definitions and classifications. Data on waste generation must be presented according to the classification of economic activities and 51 waste categories, both hazardous and non-hazardous.
Implementation date: 15.04.2012.
Structure: SCO contains a table of equivalence, i.e. a comparative review of two waste classifications: the European List of Waste (LoW) and the Statistical Classification of Waste EWCStat / Version 4 according to Annex III of Regulation EC 849/2010.

The waste catalogue is used for data collection (Regulation on the classification of waste and its processing procedures, processing and removal of waste, “Official Journal of CG”, No. 68/09), which complies with the European List of Waste (LoW) and contains a list of more than 800 types systematized according to waste properties and place of origin in 20 groups.

Each group has two digits from 01 to 20, indicating the activity in which the waste originated.

Subgroups within the group are marked with four digits, of which the first two digits belong to the group, while the third and fourth digits represent the process in which the waste originated.

According to the part of the process in which the waste is generated, within the subgroup to which it is classified, the waste is marked with six digits, of which the first four digits belong to the subgroup, and the fifth and sixth digits represent the part of the process in which the waste originated. The Waste Catalogue, as a legal basis for European control and supervision of waste, cannot be used for statistical purposes; therefore, the Statistical Classification of Waste (EWCStat / Version 4) is adopted according to Annex I of Regulation EC 849/2010.
