Monthly deflation in January was -0.1%, while the annual inflation was +3.8%


Monthly deflation measured by Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices was -0.1% in January. This was influenced mostly by the decrease in prices of non-durable household goods; milk, cheese and eggs; garments and footwear; furniture and furnishings; accommodation services. Annual inflation in January was +3.8%, and it is lower than in December, when it was +4.4%.
When observing the main groups, monthly drop of prices was noticed in the following groups: Clothing and footwear (-2.4%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.5%); Restaurants and Hotels (-0.4%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (-0.2%); Recreation and culture (-0.2%), while a growth of prices was recorded in groups: Transport (+0.6%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+0.3%); Miscellaneous goods and services (+0.3%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.2%); Health (+0.1%); Communications (+0.1%). Prices in the group Education remain at the same level as in the previous month.
Positive annual inflation rates in January were observed in the following groups: Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+8.0%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+7.2%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+4.4%); Restaurants and Hotels (+3.7%); Clothing and footwear (+3.6%); Communications (+2.5%); Transport (+0.8%); Health (+0.6%), while negative annual inflation rates were observed in groups: Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-3.1%); Miscellaneous goods and services (-0.9%); Recreation and culture (-0.7%).
