Monthly deflation in December was -0.4%, while the annual inflation was +4.4%


Monthly deflation measured by Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices was -0.4% in December. This was influenced mostly by the decrease in prices of fuels and lubricants; furniture; fruit; meat; clothing and footwear. Annual inflation in December was +4.4%, and it is lower than in November, when it was +4.8%.

When observing the main groups, monthly drop of prices was noticed in the following groups: Transport (-1.4%); Clothing and footwear (-1.3%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.6%); Recreation and culture (-0.5%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.4%); Restaurants and Hotels (-0.1%); while a growth of prices was recorded in groups: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+0.9%); Communications (+0.2%); Miscellaneous goods and services (+0.2%); Health (+0.1%). Prices in the groups: Alcoholic beverages and tobacco; Education remain at the same level as in the previous month.

Positive annual inflation rates in December were observed in the following groups: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+11.1%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+8.1%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+8.0%); Clothing and footwear (+6.1%); Restaurants and Hotels (+4.1%); Communications (+2.4%); Transport (+0.6%); Health (+0.5%); while negative annual inflation rates were observed in groups: Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.6%); Miscellaneous goods and services (-1.2%); Recreation and culture (-0.5%).
