Generated and treated waste
During 2024, generated waste in Montenegro was 1 382 551.8 t, out of which 647 975.7 t (46.9%) was in sectors of manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and other industries. Out of the total waste generated during 2024, there are 295 379.7 t of hazardous waste (21.4%).
Compared to 2023, there was an increase of 5.2% in the total waste generated. Agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector indicates an increase of 13.3%; manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and other industries show a decrease of 10.4%; while the construction sector records an increase of 57.5%; service activities sector – an increase of 9.4%; and households an increase of 3.8%.
Municipal waste generated in 2024 was 375 459.7 t or 4.3% more when compared to 2023. Public utility enterprises collected 341 312.8 t of waste, which makes 95.94% of total collected quantities. Generated municipal waste per capita amounted 602.2kg, which is for 4.3% more than in 2023.
Total treated waste including export in 2024 was 1 228 865.0 t, which is 5.0% less than in 2023. Out of total treated waste, there are 964 292.3 t landfilled/disposed waste (78.5%). Recycled waste quantity records a decrease of 7.1%, compared to 2023.
Total treated municipal waste including export was 375 252.3 t in 2024, which is 7.2% more than in 2023. Out of total treated waste, there are 343 742.5 t of landfilled/disposed waste (91.6%).
