With this release Statistical Office continues publishing the data of the Census carried out in April 2011. The data in the release refer to number and structure of population by citizenship.
Of the total number of population in Montenegro, 92% have the citizenship of Montenegro, while 2 % or 12 714 persons are waiting for the Montenegrin citizenship. Only 0.7% inhabitants of Montenegro are stateless.
The highest share of person who have the citizenship of Montenegro in the total number of population have Pluzine, Savnik, Mojkovac, and Zabljak – approx. 98%, while the lowest share has Budva, where 78% of the total number of population of Montenegro have citizenship of Montenegro.
Persons comprising the population of Montenegro, and they have foreign citizenship are 28 258, or 5% of the total number of population.
The highest share of foreigners in the total number of population is in Budva - 17%, Tivat 11%, and Herceg Novom 11%.
Among the foreign citizenship, 686 or 2 % have citizenship of EU Member State.
Inhabitants of Montenegro who have the citizenship of foreign country mostly have the citizenship of Serbia - 56%, then of Bosnia and Herzegovina 18%, and of Croatia 5%, etc.
Persons waiting to obtain the citizenship of Montenegro compared with the total number of population are mostly present in Herceg Novi - 5%, then in Budva and Tivat with 4%.
The largest number of stateless persons are in Podgorica - 2 148 or 1 % of the total number of population. The same share of stateless persons the total number of population are in Tivat.
The gender structure of population indicates that 93% male population has the citizenship of Montenegro, while the percentage of female is lower and it is 91%.
The distribution of population by citizenship indicates that there are no significant differences by age groups among men. Among women aged 20 to 29, 90% of them has the citizenship of Montenegro, and the percentage is still lower among women aged 30 to 39, and it is 88%.
