Monthly deflation in January was -0.2%

Monthly deflation measured by Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices was -0.2% in January 2015. This was influenced mostly by decrease in prices of: fuels and lubricants for personal transport; garments, shoes and other footwear; restaurants, cafés and the like; taxi services.

Observing the main groups, monthly drop of prices was noticed in the following groups: Transport (-3.8%); Clothing and footwear (-2.8%), while a monthly growth of prices was recorded in groups: Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.0%); Health (+0.3%).

European Union annual inflation was -0.5% in January 2015, down from -0.2 in December, while Euro area annual inflation was -0.6%, down from -0.1% in December. In Montenegro, in January 2015, consumer prices measured by the HICP, compared with the same month of the previous year were higher for +0.2%.

Positive annual inflation rates in January were observed in the following groups: Health (+3.2%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.0%); Clothing and footwear (+1.8%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+1.4%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+1.3%); Recreation and culture (+1.0%); Communications (+0.2%), while negative annual inflation rates were observed in the following groups: Transport (-8.9%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.2%); Miscellaneous goods and services (-0.9%); Restaurants and Hotels (-0.8%).
