Monthly deflation in October was -0.4%

Monthly deflation measured by Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices was -0.4% in October 2014 while consumer prices in October compared with the same month of previous year were lower for -0.8%. This was influenced mostly by decrease in prices of: accommodation services; fuels and lubricants for personal transport; fruit; household textiles.

When observing the main groups, monthly drop of prices was noticed in the following groups: Restaurants and Hotels (-2.0%); Transport (-1.8%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.4%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.1%), while a growth of prices was recorded in groups: Clothing and footwear (+3.6%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (+0.3%); Health (+0.2%); Communications (+0.1%); Recreation and culture (+0.1%); Miscellaneous goods and services (+0.1%).

European Union annual inflation was 0.5% in October 2014, up from 0.4 in September, while Euro area annual inflation was 0.4%, up from 0.3% in September. In Montenegro, in October 2014, consumer prices measured by the HICP, compared with the same month last year were lower for -0.8%.

Positive annual inflation rates in October were observed in the following groups: Health (+2.3%); Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+1.4%); Clothing and footwear (+0.6%), while negative annual inflation rates were observed in the following groups: Communications (-3.6%); Transport (-2.2%); Furnishing, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-2.0%); Miscellaneous goods and services (-1.4%); Recreation and culture (-1.2%); Restaurants and Hotels (-0.7%); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.5%); Food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.1%).
